Flawless HD Makeup is no longer the secret weapon of TV stars alone.

When HD (High Definition) TV was introduced to the market, and actors and news presenters where being filmed through this new technology, the on-screen makeup that they were wearing became very apparent (it looked “muddy” on screen). Before the digital age, thick layers of makeup was never noticeable on screen.

The need for a whole new class of makeup for harsh lighting and that could cover without looking mask-like makeup was apparent. Hence, exclusive HD makeup products were born.

Soon after, HD cameras started rapidly entering consumer market. The HD cameras captured every pore, exposed every detail, including the foundation and powder that were the low-definition standards. Particularly, the new cameras would pick up on any product that had settled into wrinkles or scars, making any imperfections appear worse.

Several cosmetics companies started developing and selling HD makeup product lines along with traditional ones. HD Makeup was no longer the secret weapon of TV stars alone.

HD Makeup is a perfect choice if you’re worried about how your skin will look in pictures and videos.

HD makeup gives a more natural look by eliminating skin imperfections that make the face look blur or less visible than standard makeup. HD makeup products are lighter in texture, yet they give better coverage.

HD foundations mimic the look of skin and are less detectable on camera. It consists of light diffusing ingredients such as Mica, Silicone, Crystals or Quartz. They soften the light reflected from skin, create an illusion of an even finish so you can’t detect the flaws underneath and give a flawless, natural look great both camera & in real life.

You can see the skin through the HD makeup, but the HD makeup creates a softer focus

These products are also usually oil-free and may contain mattifying agents to prevent shine in oilier complexions and avoid glare.

HD face powders are ground much more finely than the regular variety, so that the camera won't be able to pick them up. They can help to even skin tone and texture, even with minimal application.

Mineral pigments in a micronised texture are often present as well because they don’t settle into pores.

HD makeup is often made to moisturise - hyaluronic spheres blended into the foundation ensure that your skin stays hydrated and makeup do not settle into cracks and creases of dry skin. The hydration also plumps up dry skin to make wrinkles and lines less noticeable

That means you won't have to aggressively pile on moisturiser beforehand and can also get away with wearing less makeup.

But HD Makeup is not only the product, but also a technique that makeup artists are trained to achieve to ensure their clients are camera ready. It has to be applied correctly to enjoy it's picture-perfect benefits. Just because you use products with the word ‘HD’ in the label doesn’t mean you will be camera ready.

HD makeup needs to look like real skin, with pores that are not noticeable. If you pile on HD makeup and apply incorrectly, you are not going to have a transparent look. Correct application ensures that blemishes are hidden carefully, the base is blended and contoured and all shades are true to the skin. There is no settling into fine lines or small hairs and powder is translucent and carefully applied to create a shine free yet glowing finish.
